Soap Opera

So I took that test today.  I wish I had better news.  I got 38 out of 50.  I thought I walked away with only 1 wrong.  Man.  You ever take a test and then walking away thought you aced it and later find out you didn't?  I was quite down today, but I'm a bit better now.  My wife really encouraged me.  This will be a good test for me to see in myself high degrees of tenacity and adaptability to figure out what I need to do better on the final.  It's the same with GMAT.  And yet, I was far more ready for this test today than I feel ready for the GMAT.  So you can imagine the self-doubts that beat me down about my ability to do well on the GMAT.  No pitty party here.. just being honest.  I'll be ok.
I've been spending time today on GMAT Club doing questions and diving in with everyone else doing answers and explanations.  I'm planning on doing a lot more review at this point and consider it a benefit for me to answer questions on GMAT Club or Test Magic in a detailed way by explaining the concept and solving method.  This has helped build some confidence today.
I took a break and watched Dodgeball and a bit of Spiderman 2 to get my mind off the tests.   To just get away from it all seemed like what I needed today.  I had studied so hard for that stinking test today -man!.  I know the professor a lot more now and we write e-mails back and forth.
I knew we were doing well by what happened this morning.  When he walked into the class for the test, in front of everyone he thanked me for all the resources I've been getting to him and for the extra work I put in to point out some contradictions between the book and his notes.  What made it awkward was the way he said those things.  He talked like we were friends and not just student to teacher.   I wish he had done it privately instead of publicly.
Moreover, it felt a little more awkward when the professor turned to the TA in front of the class as the test had just started and whispered, "Dave over there is going to Ace this test.. watch"  I heard it from where I sat.  I'm too old to be affected by it much.. but it didn't seem like a good way to meet students in the class if they overheard that too.  I'm sure over 1/2 did.  Then my score Ah Sh*&^$$.
What's harder to deal with today is knowing my wife is sitting at home 300 miles away all by herself because I'm taking this class.  My mother-in-law get's up every morning and makes me a bunch of sandwiches to take to school since I study there all day.   I have a supportive situation so I feel like I let them down too.  I even felt like I let down the professor after he said what he said.  I e-mailed him and thanked him for the time he had been giving.  He responded with encouragement by giving me a, "you'll do better on the final" response.
The things we do in life just have so much more impact on others around us than I think many of us realize.  I hope everyone going for their MBA appreciates what those around them do to encourage and help them.  I thanked my wife today for letting me do this and for her sacrifice.  I thanked my wife's family today as well.  I hope each of you reading this, can express that thanks regularly.  We may not make it to our desired school or make it at all.  But our family and friends are still there for us.  Even more so if we show them our appreciation.  Our let down will be theirs too.  And so will our celebration as we get that e-mail notification that says, "We would like to invite you to attend this next coming years B-school class of ...... "   I look forward to that e-mail. Don't you?!

Bummer, Dave. Don't compare this result to the GMAT, two totally different beasts. Maybe this means you have plenty of gas left in the tank to rock the GMAT. Sounds like you have a good attitude, as usual. Reflect, figure out what you could have done different, then move onward and upward.

I'm really looking forward to that acceptance email!
