TopMBA releases revised B-School Selection Tool

New version of b-school selection tool goes live

The 2007 version of b-school selection tool, Scorecard has gone live at

The new Scorecard allows users to create a personalised rating of over 330 leading schools from around the world based on a wide range of key criteria such as return on investment, reputation with recruiters, academic strength and specialisations.

Take for example a French or British manager, keen to work in a highly popular sector such as investment banking or consultancy after gaining their MBA and wanting to know which school is best regarded by recruiters:

Programmes most highly rated by MBA recruiters - global – Source Scorecard

1) Harvard

2) Wharton

3) Insead

4) London Business School

5) Sloan, MIT

If the user only wanted to study in France, the two top schools would be Insead and HEC. If their focus was in the UK the schools would be London Business School and Manchester.

The user could also choose to rate schools by how well they were viewed by recruiters as specialists in the teaching of a specific subject such as finance:

Programmes most highly rated by recruiters for the teaching of finance - global – Source Scorecard

1) Wharton

2) Chicago GSB

3) London Business School

4) Columbia

5) Harvard

6) NYU Stern

7) Insead

8) Sloan, MIT

9) IE-Instituto de Empresa

10) Kellogg, Northwestern

“The real value of the Scorecard tool lies in the combination of criteria it allows potential MBAs to use to find the right school for their individual goals and circumstances,” says Odelia Elhanany, the project manager behind Scorecard. “A user could just as easily find which schools in the USA rated highest for marketing, which school in France would provide the best return on investment over a full career or which school in the UK had the strongest faculty. The possibilities are virtually endless.”

Potential MBAs will get the opportunity to review Scorecard results with MBA admissions experts when the World MBA Tour visits cities around the world this Fall. Now in its twelfth year of operation, the World MBA Tour travels with the top international business schools, including most of the US ‘Top 20’, including Chicago, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duke, Michigan, Tuck and Wharton. All of the leading European schools also take part including SDA Bocconi (Italy), HEC and INSEAD (France), IESE, ESADE and IE-Instituto de Empresa (Spain), IMD and St Gallen (Switzerland), and the Judge Institute Cambridge, Cass, Cranfield, Tanaka School Imperial College, London, Manchester, and Warwick Business Schools (UK).

In Jan 2006, I had used TopMBA but was not very impressed. The search result was a little too off the mark. I'm not sure if my "scorecard" really reflected my interests and choice but gave an indication of solid algorithms beneath.

The case in point is the ROI part, which, in my view, was good since the mid-Tier B-schools were better in the scorecard (in short-term, these schools give decent return; yet the investment is low) than the top & bottom-tier schools.

I hope the revamped algorithm gives better list.

hi dave..i took Gmat early this year and scored a disappointing 570. However, i retook it last month and scored 490, which was a disaster. I am a female with 5.5 yrs of experience.i am very confused since i have to make a decision ASAP as the 1st round of deadlines are approaching. I am keen to go to a US school but dont think would make it in top 50's. EU is my last option (problems in work permit)..pls help and advice in suggesting few schools that ui can apply/look at. I even have financial constraints so cannot take that big a risk.

Please e-mail me directly at In the meantime, you should know that a less than desirable score is usually the result of three things. 1) Lack of preperation and focused disciplined study. 2) Lack of ability. 3) Panic

Generally, most people who work hard at studying can pull off a 550.

Hello Dave,
I cant describe what a surprise it was to find this site where someone is so selflessly devoting expertise and time to help prospective MBA applicants. I too am a confused applicant. with my GMAT score 590, I realized that search as well as admission is no rosy road. I am an Indian and aspire to enter the biotech sector, accordingly am interested in General or strategic management courses.
I really cant understand how should I assess the standards and quality of lower profiled AACSB accredited schools. I shall be highly obliged if you could guide me as well as suggest some good mba colleges where i can apply, as after lot of search and 4rejections, i have stumbled upon a site where i found some hope.
