For the last 2 years, I've been going to this Food and Wine Festival in San Francisco. It's called "FallFest" and it absolutely rocks. Over 40 wineries and 40 restaurants are part of this outdoor event. Restaurants pair up with a winery and create an appetizer pairing with selected wines being served by the winerys. Tickets cost $75 and it covers everything. You get a Riedel wine glass to keep and a decorative food platter. Upon entering, you go around to these booths and ask for a pour of any of of the 3 or 4 Wines each Winery brought with them. Directly adjacent to each Winery are the Restaurants paired appetizer dish. Pinot's, Cab's, Merlot's, Chardonnay's and the like. The appetizer/food samplings are served buffet style as well. You can drink as much as you want! There are cooking seminars and demos on one side and a live band on another. 2 years ago, Martin Yan was the host demo chef. He's one funny guy.
I'm mentioning this event because I'll be there on Oct 7th. The event time runs from noon to 4pm. You can still order tickets online. I must say that if you go to Stanford, Haas or live in the Bay area and you don't go to this... you're really missing a good thing.
Interesting story..... Last year was the first time they included a free Riedel glass to use when you drank the wine. At the end of the day, dozens and dozens of people didn't seem to know what to do with thier Riedel glasses, so they just went home and left them all over the place. I couldn't restrain myself, so I grabbed a Wine glass shipping box at the entrance where they were handing them out and snagged 24 of them. Some we gave away. I'm still using them today. Actually, I'm holding one now as I drink my Italian Amarone while writing this Blog entry.
Come and join me if you're in the area. I have a group of a dozen people going and some friends are flying in just to go with my wife and I. We'll be one of the first people in line before they open the gate. If you love wine, may I suggest that if you do come, that you sign up for the VIP pass. (There are only 36 left) You get selected Reserve wine tastings and a special series of wine tastings with a bunch of very prominant winemakers in the area.
