Random thoughts & A new regular section to my Blog entries called "What's New"

The Oscars are done. I'm a happy camper. I tied for first place with my wife's family. Now I can buy me a fraction of a single Google share or something. Seriously, this is a big deal on their side of the family. Family members have gone to see every single movie to prepare for this thing.

On my B-School application front, I have a sinking feeling about Cornell-Johnson. About a month ago, my application showed a status of "application under review". Then this last week, I've noticed that the status changed to "not available". Then there is a statement below that about checking on or near the application results announcement date. I'm letting it sink in that since Cornell has not called me about an interview.. that I doubt I'll be seeing the halls of Johnson anytime soon as an admit. I'm not depressed. I'm let down and sad. Please don't tell me look on the brighter side or best wishes blah blah blah. Let's be honest here. There is a 99% chance of getting in now. Don't anyone sugar coat this. I like people who are honest more than I like people who are only nice. I think that I'd rather just wait for Tuck now and prepare for my GMAT retake.

It's been a hard year. I'm still in the middle of taking my Accounting class. I'm getting the highest score in the class and I'm starting to talk to more recruiters about jobs. In fact, I'm stretching my net to look at jobs all across the U.S.. I have a meeting with a government agency in Wash D.C. next week so we'll see. I'm dead serious about my career aspirations. My re-app strategy has therefore already begun. My plans are
1) Finish Accounting I
2) Take Accounting II
3) Re-Take GMAT and score 680+
4) Management job that fits with my career profile.

Again, I'm let down, a bit mad and motivated about my intentions for B-school and my career direction there-after. I won't give any school a reason to overlook me next time. All I can say is that I'm very much living by the motto of "Hoping for the best, PREPARING for the worst".

It's hard to believe that it's been nearly 9 or 10 months since I started this Blog. There is so much information that I've gathered and so much that I've written about. What a journey this is.

I've decided to call the area of my journal entries that I mention interesting articles and news of the day as "What's New", in honor of the Wall Street Journal.
By the way, I think it's hilarious that the Wall Street Journal has a money section. Uh, hello...what is WSJ focusing on?

============== What's New =================

Harvard & Business Case - Harvard undergraduate student started Here's the story of a trio of undergraduates that are living the dream of taking a business idea and making it a reality. You would think that this would be the kind of story you might hear about as a post story from the dot com days. It's not. It's a story that's less than a year old. Read about their lessons learned and the kind of people they are meeting. It's a real hoot.

entrepreneurship - Have you ever heard of the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship? Neither have I. It's a program that has become immensely popular in the United States and is catching on in Europe, Africa and Asia, where governments are desperately trying to find jobs for their expanding youth population.(NFTE). Why wasn't I ever informed a group like this? It would have been a blast to be part of. It mainly caters to middle and high school students in the United States. So tell your cousins and youngins' around you about this. The programs are a hit because they are down-to-earth. Class activities include games on the benefits of global trade, business negotiation skills and using basic items like a sandwich to break down the cost of goods and labor. Intricate mathematics, for example, is simplified to instill marketing and salesmanship skills.

Kellogg - The McCormick Tribune Foundation revealed Wednesday that it will grant $5.4 million for 80 scholarships to graduate students at Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism and Kellogg School of Management. The scholarships will allow some Kellogg students majoring in media management to work on summer media projects and conduct research, said John Lavine, director of the Media Management Center. The scholarships also will lessen the monetary sacrifice of returning to school for the two-year program.

Kellogg - Britchick and Majalo have done a great job of describing their DAK experiences at Kellogg. Basically, it's a multi-day event designed to help you get a feel for the school and to "politely" convince you that Kellogg is the right school for you and to reject the other schools one may have been accepted to.

UCLA & HAAS & Chicago - Speaking of School reviews. Calgrad did a sweet one on Friday. ---> The Article. He also gave credit to Wakechick for her UCLA and Chicago debate in having to choose between the two schools.

India in General - With all the Bloggers who are from India. I found this article to be pretty interesting by Attagirl. I think my ethnicity and people from India have a lot in common. For one, everybody is in everybody's business. Family, friends whatever.. it doesn't matter. It's difficult if impossible to keep things quiet. It's like living under a microscope and you'd wish those closest around you would just mind their own business sometimes. If you've seen the television show " Everybody loves Raymond" I think people from India would flat out find this show to be hilarious because the family is very much like what I described earlier.

Wharton - Wakechick summarized her Wharton visit quite thoroughly. Thanks so much for doing that.

New Blogger 2008 - Looks like we have a new blogger for the 2008 applicant class. Not much written so far. But we'll see. Welcome aboard Muni-Nerd You've been added to my 2008 Blog Roll List.
