Insurance doesn't cover Lasik. I've seen good doctors who will do it for $500 per eye. But the wavefront Lasik that came out in April last year is the real thing to get. Wavefront does a better job and costs more. But's it's worth it. It may bump up the price to $750 or $800 per eye. I had mine done by a pretty well known doctor. Cost was $3,500 total. he does professional sports players and movie stars. My reasoning was your eyes are crucial. Who wants to get something worked on that could screw with them badly. In other words, we trust the use of our eyes for our life. I don't want to go up in a Space Shuttle knowing that the parts were purchased and pieces built by the lowest bidder. Lasik is never paid for by Insurance. There is only one thing to help though and that is using flexible benefits. At my wife's work, they have health flex benefits where a portion of the paycheck is taken before taxes. So you can pay for Lasik with non-taxed money. We did the surgery, paid for it on credit card.. submitted the receipt to her works' flex plan and they sent us a check for the full amount. We then paid off the credit card and now we are paying monthly non-tax for the rest of the year. Since flex benefits work on a yearly basis, it's best to start in January. Do the surgeryin January, pay the bill and the flex benefits company will break out the withdrawals into equal payments for the rest of the year. If you get it done in August, You'll have to break out the payments over a 4 month period. Flex benefits in other words work yearly and don't carry over the following year. Most plans also have a max limit. It's far better to know how much you'll pay for the surgery up front so that you'll know exactly how much to break out the payments with. If you don't use all the money in the plan because you overestimated.. you lose the money in the plan that you didn't use.

Also, -1.5 is a level they'll work with. I think -1 or less is questionable.
